ㅤ"’I am hereby ordering every department and agency in the federal government to provide the Department of Commerce with all requested records regarding the number of citizens and noncitizens in our country,’ the President stated in the Rose Garden of the White House with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Attorney General William Barr by his side. ‘They must furnish all legally accessible records in their possession immediately. We will utilize these vast federal databases to gain a full, complete, and accurate count of the noncitizen population.’"
ㅤ"The Supreme Court announced Friday it will grant an expedited hearing on the Trump administration’s request to add a question concerning citizenship to the 2020 census.
ㅤThe justices set oral argument for February, converting what had been a narrow request involving one part of the case into a full grant of review.
ㅤAt stake is one of President Trump’s key goals — asking people to disclose their citizenship when they take part in the 2020 count."

ㅤ”Legal experts said it was not immediately clear that states would be successful in challenging the Commerce Department’s decision in court.
ㅤ’The power to do the Census is given to the federal government,’ said Rick Hasen, an election law expert at the University of California-Irvine.”
ㅤô¿ô …I suspect this will be the longest legal battle of all. The Dems have a lot to lose. No surprise that the Trump admin has made an early start.

ㅤ”President Trump’s Commerce Department said Monday evening that the 2020 Census will include a question on citizenship over the strenuous objections of Democrats.
ㅤCommerce Secretary Wilbur Ross announced his decision to reinstate the citizenship question in a post on the Commerce website. The citizenship question has not appeared on the census since 1950, but Ross argued that collecting citizenship data has been ‘a long-standing historical practice.’
ㅤ’For the approximately 90 percent of the population who are citizens, this question is no additional imposition,’ Ross wrote in his decision. ‘And for the approximately 70 percent of non-citizens who already answer this question accurately on the ACS, the question is no additional imposition.’
Census data is used to redraw House districts and the number of House seats each state receives also plays a part in determining each state’s number of electoral votes in a Presidential election.'”
