The Latest: Judge rejects challenge to rules of hand recount

ㅤ"A Florida judge is rejecting a challenge to the rules that will be used in a hand recount in the state’s contentious U.S. Senate race.
ㅤU.S. District Judge Mark Walker late Thursday ruled against Sen. Bill Nelson and Democrats in another one of the lawsuits surrounding the recount.
ㅤDuring the hand recount, election officials look at just the ballots that weren’t recorded by voting machines.
ㅤUnder state law, voters must use only approved markings or their ballot is disqualified. And they can’t simply cross out a mistaken vote but must explain in writing why they did so…"

Scott to recuse himself from certifying Florida election results

Bombing Suspect Identified

ㅤ"Cesar Altieri Sayoc Jr. of Aventura, Fla., who owns a white van apparently adorned with pro-Trump stickers that was confiscated by the FBI, was identified in part due to DNA evidence, law-enforcement officials told NBC News.
ㅤSayoc has a long criminal record of at least ten arrests for threatening to deploy bombs, possessing a stolen vehicle, and selling steroids, among other violations."

Poll: Nelson, Scott running neck-and-neck in Florida Senate race

Hurricane Michael is 'extremely dangerous' Category 4 storm hours before landfall

ㅤ”Hurricane Michael strengthened into a Category 4 storm as it moved toward the Florida Panhandle, where it could blow ashore as the strongest storm to hit the United States this year.
ㅤMichael had maximum sustained winds of 140 mph early Wednesday, hours before its expected landfall in the afternoon, and was expected to grow even stronger.
ㅤIf it makes landfall as a Category 4, it’ll be the strongest hurricane to hit the Florida Panhandle in recorded history, CNN meteorologist Michael Guy said. It would also be the strongest storm in terms of wind speed to make landfall in the country this year.”

Florida prosecutors seeking death penalty in school shooting

ㅤ”Prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty for the former student charged with killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last month even though attorneys for Nikolas Cruz indicated he would plead guilty if his life was spared.
ㅤCruz, 19, is scheduled for formal arraignment Wednesday on a 34-count indictment, including 17 first-degree murder charges. The office of Broward County State Attorney Michael Satz filed the formal notice of its intentions Tuesday, though the action does not necessarily mean a plea deal will not be reached.
ㅤThe only other penalty option for Cruz, if convicted, is life in prison with no possibility of parole.”

NRA sues Florida over new gun bill
