Ex-Virginia governor: Trump could 'rob a bank' and Senate wouldn't convict him

ㅤ"Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) said there’s no way the Republican-controlled Senate would impeach President Trump even if House Democrats started an inquiry.
ㅤ’The issue for Democrats is, are we going to spend all our time talking about impeachment, which we know they can’t get him in the Senate?’ McAuliffe said Sunday on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press.’
ㅤ’I mean, he could rob a bank and the Senate would not convict him. It doesn’t matter,’ he added.’"

ㅤô¿ô …I would have agreed with McAuliffe six months ago. But Trump’s popularity hasn’t significantly improved and time is running out. I think it’s possible that the Senate will leverage the threat of conviction to force Trump to drop out of the 2020 race. If Trump doesn’t back down, he’s gone.

Factbox: Steps for removing a U.S. president from office

ㅤ”The full House can approve the articles of impeachment by a simple majority vote.
ㅤImpeachment is like an indictment and the Senate then tries the official. A two-thirds vote of the Senate is required for conviction, which results in removal from office.”

ㅤô¿ô …Assuming voting along party lines, the Dems must pick up 17 Senate seats in order to remove Trump from office after midterms. There are only eight GOP Senate seats up for grabs.
ㅤIt may be a blessing that polls show that the GOP will lose the House. The Repubs will work harder getting their legislation passed in 2018. They’ve got nothing to lose.

The nearly 60 Dems who voted for impeachment

ㅤô¿ô …With very few exceptions, they were all Black, Latino or big-city liberals from the Northeast, California and Chicago. It was a replay of the 2016 election, except this time Trump supporters and other sane people pulverized the rabble.
ㅤSteve Bannon is spot on when he says identity politics will be the death of the Democratic Party.

House rejects Democrat’s resolution to impeach Trump

ㅤPictured: Rep. Al Green

ㅤ”The House on Wednesday overwhelmingly rejected an effort by Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) to impeach President Trump.
ㅤIn a 364-58 vote, lawmakers tabled the impeachment resolution from Green; every Republican voted to turn away Green’s resolution, while four Democrats voted present.
ㅤDespite the objections of their leadership, 58 Democrats voted in support of Green’s resolution — a tally that likely reflects the growing thirst on the left for an impeachment push.”

Rep. Al Green (D-Texas)

ㅤ”A push for an impeachment vote would defy Democratic leaders, who have swatted away attempts by their most rabid anti-Trump members to seek the president’s ouster.
ㅤAsked whether she supports an impeachment resolution, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said flatly, ‘No.'”
