FBI opens probe into Dayton mass shooting

ㅤ"’We have uncovered evidence throughout the course of our investigation that the shooter was exploring violent ideologies, and based upon this evidence, we’re initiating an FBI investigation side by side with the Dayton Police Department,’ Todd Wickerham, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Cincinnati field office, said at a news conference.
ㅤWickerham said the investigation will focus on figuring out what ideologies influenced 24-year-old Connor Betts, who might have helped Betts before the attack and why he chose the specific target of Dayton’s Oregon entertainment district."

Trump, Balderson claim victory in race too close to call

ㅤ"President Trump and Republican state Sen. Troy Balderson declared victory in a hotly contested House special election in Ohio on Tuesday, as the GOP candidate held on to a razor-thin lead in a race that remained too close to call.
ㅤBalderson was leading Franklin County Recorder Danny O’Connor on Tuesday by 50.2 percent to 49.3 percent, with 100 precincts reporting, according to a projection from the Associated Press. But at least 3,367 provisional ballots were yet to be counted, making the outcome potentially unknown for days.
ㅤUnder Ohio election law, any margin between the two candidates of less than half a percentage point would trigger an automatic recount."

McConnell sees Ohio in play as confidence about midterms grows

ㅤ"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in an interview with The Hill said he thinks Republicans can make a play for Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown’s seat in Ohio.
ㅤBrown previously hadn’t been a top target of McConnell’s, who just last week left Ohio off a list of Democratic-held seats he saw as top midterm targets.
ㅤHis new comments point to the growing optimism among Republicans that they can widen the map, and that their electoral prospects are improving with a strengthening economy and an uptick in President Trump’s approval numbers."ㅤ

Federal Appeals Court Forces Ohio To Fund Planned Parenthood

ㅤ"Mike Gonidakis, President of Ohio Right to Life, said the court has essentially ruled that corporations now have a right to public tax dollars, approximately $1.5 million annually.
ㅤ’The Constitution does not give private corporations the right to taxpayer dollars,’ Gonidakis said. ‘Planned Parenthood receives countless tax dollars a year from hardworking Ohioans, which frees up their budget to fund their real priorities: abortion on demand. We trust that pro-life Attorney General Mike DeWine will defend this law that protects the conscience rights of Ohio taxpayers at the Supreme Court, and that activist judges won’t get the final say in this matter.’"
