Michigan Supreme Court rules that redistricting proposal can appear on ballot

ㅤ"If approved by voters in November, the measure would create an independent commission made up of four Democrats, four Republicans and five independents selected by Michigan’s secretary of state.
ㅤThat panel would be responsible for redrawing the state’s congressional districts every 10 years. The goal, advocates say, is to end alleged partisan gerrymandering by state lawmakers, who are currently tasked with redistricting.
ㅤUnder the state’s current rules, the party in power in the state legislature gets to decide congressional boundaries."ㅤ

Supreme Court agrees to hear Texas redistricting case

ㅤ”The high court announced Friday it would hear the Texas redistricting case, Abbott v. Perez. The justices will likely hear oral arguments in April.
ㅤA three-judge panel ruled in August that parts of the Texas House district map had to be redrawn ahead of the 2018 midterm elections because lawmakers discriminated against minorities when they drew the districts.”
