No New Tariffs: Trump Wins Trade War With China

ㅤ"Xi agreed to immediately begin buying more agricultural products from American farmers, along with a pledge to purchase more industrial and energy products. While the specifics of the trade agreements have not been announced, the White House says the deal will help correct the trade imbalance between China and the U.S. Xi has also agreed to a number of cybersecurity and property theft concessions
ㅤAdditionally, China has also agreed to label the opioid fentanyl as a controlled substance, making anyone who sells fentanyl to the U.S. subjected to harsher penalties under Chinese law. The labeling will help the federal government as it fights an historic death rate from opioid overdose."

Majority of Likely Voters: Create U.S. Jobs Through Tariffs, Not Free Trade

ㅤ"The poll comes as economic nationalism has swept across the American electorate, with a similar poll revealing last month that 6-in-10 midterm voters support Trump’s tariffs on foreign imports, designed to protect American jobs and industry while forcing multinational corporations to bring manufacturing back to the U.S."

Trump Tariffs Win Higher Wages for Michigan, Minnesota Steelworkers

ㅤ"The 1,850 American steelworkers who are set to see wage increases are based in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan’s Tilden and Empire mines and the United Taconite and Hibbing Taconite mines in Iron Range, Minnesota.
ㅤThe wage increases were only made possible as the iron, steel, and overall metals industry has seen a boom after President Trump enacted a 25 percent tariff on imported steel and a ten percent tariff on aluminum.
ㅤCleveland Cliffs executives are so supportive of Trump’s tariffs on imported products that they have launched an ad campaign talking up the benefits the economic nationalist agenda has brought for American workers and the metal industry.
ㅤIron Range, Minnesota — which was devastated by multinational free trade deals — has been revitalized by the Trump tariffs. A local report this month noted how small businesses in Iron Range are seeing employment booms and a growing economy thanks to the strong production of the iron mines in the region."

Bloomberg: Trump Tariffs Not Costing U.S. Jobs as Free Traders Claimed

ㅤ”For the last year, free trade organizations, the Chamber of Commerce, and the establishment media has claimed that Trump’s 25 percent tariffs on imported steel and ten percent tariff on imported aluminum would cost hundreds of thousands of jobs.
ㅤThis year, the free trade apparatus claimed that there would be 430,000 American jobs wiped out by Trump’s tariffs. Now, free traders admit that the tariffs have not cost the U.S. any jobs.
ㅤA Bloomberg Businessweek report by Peter Coy notes that not only have Trump’s tariffs on imported metals not cost Americans their jobs, but they have also actually had the opposite impact, spurring job growth in the metal industry and manufacturing.”

ㅤô¿ô …Apparently Conservatism has its share of intellectuals who need to go back to the Elementary School of Common Sense, and Shapiro is one of them.
ㅤOur trade situation with China is like purchasing an automobile where China is the auto dealer and the USA is the buyer. Any buyer who thinks they will actually come out ahead in a deal for their car is a moron. The only way to win is to not buy the car. But I forgive Shapiro. Conservatism has so few heroes.ㅤ

McConnell: Bill reining in Trump's tariff powers 'an exercise in futility'

p6article232306whp.jpg

ㅤ"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) signaled on Wednesday that he will not support legislation reining in President Trump’s tariff authority and that the President will not sign such a bill.
ㅤ’Yeah, I don’t think we need to be trying to rein in the President through legislation. No. 1, it would be an exercise in futility because he wouldn’t sign it,’ McConnell told SiriusXM when asked if he opposed the bill.
ㅤMcConnell was asked about legislation, spearheaded by GOP Sen. Bob Corker (Tenn.), that would require Trump to get congressional approval for any tariffs invoked under the national security sections of the trade law, known as Section 232."ㅤ

BLINK: AFTER TRUMP TIRADE, CHINA PLEDGES TO ‘SIGNIFICANTLY’ LOWER TARIFFS, PROTECT INTELLECTUAL PROPERTYp10article100401wp.png

ㅤ"President Trump last week raged about China’s high tariffs against American products. The Mainstream media breathlessly predicted a devastating trade war — one the MSM gleefully declared the U.S. would lose — and said the aggressive move would devastate the stock market. Neither happened. In fact, the exact opposite occurred.
ㅤOn Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jingping announced plans to ‘open’ China and vowed to ‘significantly’ lower tariffs on automobile imports from the U.S."…

U.S., South Korea agree to new trade deal

U.S., SOUTH KOREA AGREE TO NEW TRADE DEALp27article222317wp.png

ㅤ”‘This is both a good deal for both countries and a very big deal in the history of U.S. trade negotiations,’ said a senior administration official who briefed reporters on the deal. ‘This agreement is visionary and innovative, and underscores a pattern of failure by previous administrations to negotiate fair and reciprocal trade deals that benefit both countries.’
ㅤThe U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement or KORUS has long vexed U.S. auto and auto parts industry because of caps on American cars sold in Korea and other barriers to entering the market.
ㅤMr. Trump, who made fixing bad trade deals a cornerstone of his 2016 Presidential campaign, has blasted the existing trade deal with South Korea as ‘horrible.’
ㅤThe makeover of KORUS is the first major renegotiation of a trade deal in U.S. history. The official said it is also a template for how Mr. Trump will broker better deals for American business and workers.'”
